Message from the Parks and Recreation Director

September 2009

The fall is a time to start getting things organized  putting away all your summer toys and getting your Winter plans in place.

The same is true for us in the Recreation department.  As you review this guide you will see a number of favorite programs return  as well as a few new activities that you and your family can take part in.  Please take the time to review the guide and register early as we anticipate most programs to fill to capacity.
This is also a very excited time for our department as we  are in the process of completing a Master Plan of Parks and Recreation for the Town of Renfrew.

This process started in the early part of 2009 with the Town Council and the Recreation committee working with a Recreation consultant to look at what services and facilities we have in the Town of Renfrew, and what groups and organizations exist in our area.  From there, some interviews have been held with organizations and facility users.  This information  coupled with details from throughout the province will give us a clear picture of what we have to offer in the Town.  During the next few months a community survey will be underway that asks a random sampling of Town residents their thoughts on what we have and what future growth we should consider.  If your household receives one of these surveys in the mail , please take the time to complete and return it.  Your opinion is a big part of the process as we develop a ten year plan for Parks and Recreation in the Town of Renfrew.  We anticipate the completion of the study in the early Spring of 2010.  This is a very open process that I would encourage you to express your opinion.  I can be reached at the Recreation Centre at 613-432-3131 or via email at kwhitman-mckie@town.renfrew.on.ca

Thanks to all the supporters and advertisers of this guide  without your help we would not be able to provide this information to our residents.

Finally a big thanks to the great staff of the Parks and Recreation department on your hard work and dedication over this past summer.  We had a lot of things to juggle and everything was done professionally and efficiently.

Enjoy!!
