Clearing Snow and Ice
Keeping Public safety in Mind

As we begin to deal with the snow fall of the year, and you are making efforts to clear your driveways and sidewalks, please keep in mind the need to avoid burying hydrants. If there is a hydrant near your home, please take the time to ensure that the snow and ice is at least 60 cm (2-3 ft) clear of the hydrant. Quick access to these hydrants by crews responding to a fire at your home or your neighbours' is essential in protecting lives and minimizing damage.

This is also a time to ensure your furnace fresh air intake and exhaust vents are clear of snow. Having these intakes and outlets blocked can create a dangerous circumstance within your home leading to the accumulation of Carbon Monoxide (CO). So please take a moment and ensure there are no drifts blocking your home vents and if you are able, ensure your neighbours' vents are unobstructed as well.

Should you require any assistance with either of these preventative safety measures, please do not hesitate to contact our office at 613-432-2811.
